Menjar Blanc of Alghero is a traditional Algherese dessert of ancient Catalan origin. It appears as a smooth, delicate white cream made with milk, sugar, and natural flavorings, with an elegant and slightly citrusy taste. In Alghero it is prepared both as a spoon dessert and in the distinctive pie version, enclosed in a pastry shell (puff pastry or shortcrust), a local variation that clearly sets it apart from other blancmange-style desserts found across the Mediterranean.
