How to read a typical food product

  • Look for DOP and IGP marks: they tie production to a territory with certified methods. The EU logo (sun with stars) is a reliable signal.
  • Read the label: simple ingredients, an identifiable producer from the area, declared origin. The shorter the ingredient list, the better.
  • Short supply chain: buying directly from producers, wineries, mills, or specialised shops in the area guarantees traceability and usually higher quality.
